Summit Debate is entering its 24th year as a leader in summer speech and debate institutes for middle and high school students. Our summer programs have a proven track record as the best in the country. One ingredient of our success is our faculty, which includes more combined full-time teachers on staff than any other summer institute. In the past season, our alumni's accomplishments range from invitational championships to state championships to national champions.

We’re so excited to announce that Jack Ave is joining us for our Des Moines session on our LD staff! If you need a summer LD program for a younger student where they won’t be lost in a crowd, look no further than our NDF Des Moines session! There is no one better than Jack to make you excited about speech and debate! Jack is the head of debate at Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, New York. As a student, Jack competed for Okoboji High School in Milford, Iowa in both Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas Debate. His junior and senior year, Jack made outround appearances at tournaments like Harvard, Blake, and West Des Moines Valley. In 2013, Jack was the first debater from his school to attend the Tournament of Champions. As a coach, Jack's students have seen success across multiple events. While at Poly Prep, Jack's students in Public Forum have championed tournaments such as Harvard, Lexington, and Blake while also reaching elimination rounds at Wake Forest, Yale, Georgetown, the New York City Invitational, Emory, and UPenn. Through private coaching, Jack has also coached students in Lincoln-Douglas debate to elimination rounds at Yale, Harvard, the New York City Invitational, and the Sunvitational. This is Jack’s third summer instructing at the National Debate Forum.
We're so excited to announce that Cory Shay is returning to NSF this year in the Oratory labs at BOTH sessions (San Jose & Des Moines!) Cory Shay is the head coach at Gwynedd Mercy Academy outside of Philadelphia. Most recently, Cory helped coached the 2018 NSDA Informative Speaking National Runner Up. Additionally, Cory has coached champions of prestigious invitational tournaments such as Harvard, George Mason, Yale, and Villiger. Under Cory’s tenure, Gwynedd has had over 75 qualifiers to NCFL Nationals including 14 students who finished in the Top 20 in the country at NCFL Nationals. She has qualified over 25 students to the NSDA National Finals, the Tournament of Champions (Kentucky), and the NIETOC National Finals, including a National Runner-Up (2nd Place) in Persuasive Speaking at the NIETOC Nationals. Congratulations to Miles Dintzner and his partner for winning the Texas Forensic Association State Championship In Public Forum. Miles attended NDF in 2018 and is registered to join us again in 2019! Our alumni keep coming back year after year because they know there’s only one #CampThatWins!
More huge news from the National Speech Forum! We are so excited that Luke Ostrander is returning to our interp faculty in 2019! Luke Ostrander is the Director of Speech at Apple Valley High School in MN, and worked with students in Iowa and coached in Nebraska before moving to Minnesota in 2015. In his 10+ years in this activity, he’s coached 78 students to the NIETOC, NCFL, NSDA, and Middle School NSDA National Tournaments, with multiple octo, quarter, and semifinalists, as well as 13 National finalists. Mr. Ostrander has also coached numerous state finalists and champions in NE and MN in Extemp, Humor, Drama, Poetry, Prose, Informative and Oratory. In 2014, he was awarded the NSDA Nebraska District Speech Director of the Year award. With a background in theatre, he has a passion for bringing stories to life in fresh and genuine ways, especially ones that need to be told in our world today.
