INCLUSION & DIVERSITY AT SUMMIT DEBATE
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Inclusion and Diversity is an integral part of our everyday lives. Debate mirrors that, because is a training ground for real life. Regardless of your career path, you will encounter people from all walks of life. We want to help you prepare for being respectful of difference and understand how it enriches our world. Learning from others in a debate context will lead to innovation and new arguments.
How does Inclusion and Diversity work online?
The work takes place in a few different ways.
We want your experience to be safe and enjoyable. If you are being harassed, demeaned, bullied, I can be the first line of defense.
We will run seminars surrounding Diversity, like how to develop allies in the struggle and other affinity groups.
Small group discussions on various topics surrounding Inclusion and Diversity. We can talk about the impact of unconscious bias, using Diversity good as a debate argument and various programs to increase recruiting and Diversity.
What about staff?
We have a robust training that all staff members will go through to spot issues that might arise. You should feel comfortable talking to them as well. But we want to let you know that we will always be able to make myself available. (With some small exceptions, like when giving a lecture…) But the motto, “See something, say something” remains in effect. We might miss something but know that you do not have to remain alone. We are here for you. There is a reason that NDF, NSF and Summit Debate are one of the most diverse staffs in the country.
Can I remain anonymous?
YES! You can remain anonymous! We will have a secure Student Portal that you will be able to report concerns or events during the institutes.
