Overview of Our Speech Programs

For more than a decade, Summit Debate has offered speech programs at our summer institutes. Our speech programs are led by individuals with more than a decade worth of teaching experience.

Our speech programs are led by three national champion coaches – Bob Ickes in Oratory/Informative, Meredith Deaton in Extemp and Joele Denis in Interp. Something that sets our coaches apart is the time they invest in your student – before camp, during camp, and after camp. We feel that this investment is the crucial difference to give your students the expectation of success.

You can tell by looking at our alumni’s results throughout the year. The work they put in with our national champion coaches gives them the foundation to build upon with their own coaches – the summit is the limit.

In our speech programs, our curriculum focuses on developing the speaker, not the speech. With an emphasis on your student rather than the piece, we’re able to accomplish more – whether its character development, dramatic structure, writing styles, or building a toolbox of arguments.

Our speech program’s curriculum is far more than just lectures – it prioritizes experiences, both for the speakers and their audiences.

We offer instruction in: International Extemporaneous Speaking, Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, Dramatic Intepretation, Humorous Interpretation, Program Oral Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Prose, Poetry, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, and Original Advocacy. Our Goal: Developing the Speaker
